We couldn't expect anything less from little Alfred, the master of playing with emotions...
  James Stewart is a genius; he manages to interact so much with the viewer that even a nimrod could understand his psychological breakdown inside. His anxious puppy eyes together with the shaky and inconfindent posture magnificently shows a man distress and on the verge of breaking down any minute now. That's why Kim Novak gets to appear so screen-dominant, giving more air to the whole vibe of "something does not feel right" with the ease of a femme fatale.
Must watch this : on a cold winter night, with a glass of hot mulled wine and a sweetheart for company.

It! The Terror from Beyond Space (1958)

  A rescue expedition is sent to Mars where a previous expedition was covered in blood ; the only survivor is believed to have murdered all his partners but he states that they were actually attacked by some sort of an alien humanoid. Everyone seems to take the survivor for a lunatic killer until the a weird humanoid makes its appearance...
  Edward L. Cahn was a prolific director in his time and a true representative of the 50's film industry. Though this film does not set any new record or boundary within the genre of Sci-Fi, that does not mean that it is not an enjoyable 70-minute long excuse to relax and let your fantasy travel you. It is a fact that the monster could and should have been much better but in the end that is why we love this cheap and true approach to the alien issue by these people 60 years ago!
  Marshall Thompson is the sole survivor and the one who is charged with murder. He seems to take all this pressure too lightly, especially from douchebags like Robert Bice and Paul Langton who give him a hard time about his story. In the end, truth solves the mystery and Thompson get all the ladies and the credit of killing It, played by Ray Corrigan! A classic American plot twist.
Must watch this :  on a rainy, lazy Sunday after a big barbeque. Get your spoon and your 10kg bowl of ice cream and get lost in the universe of strawberry syrup with chocolate monsters and vanilla aliens!

Horror Of Dracula (1958) a.k.a Dracula

  After Jonathan Harker's failed attempt to murder Dracula in his castle, he flees to a nearby town and starts preying on Harker's fiancée. Doctor Van Helsing joins the fight against Dracula and he seems to be the only one able to protect her and strike a definitive blow to the vampire's heart...
  Classic Hammer Productions director Terence Fisher brings one of the most classic and most complete films in the cinema legend of Dracula.Back then, Hammer Films weren't yet evolved in what we all came to love and that is obvious in the settings and the mood of the film. You can witness the slow transformation, the turning into a very good production and you can see that this movie still didn't have those. But that doesn't mean that this film is not as good as the others. On the other hand, this film is the father!
  A long and fruitful legendary friendship and co-operation started with this film as this was the first time Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing met as arch enemies (in The Curse of Frankenstein they weren't sworn enemies). Paying total respect to Bram Stoker's work, the two actors together with the rest of the cast (Melissa Stribling, Michael Gough, Carol Marsh etc) present a fine work of professionalism and passion for the Gothic horror!
Must watch this : for some reason this movie goes well with a plateful of the good ol' goulash, a pint of smooth Indian Pale Ale and a pipe filled with  fine tobacco! Enjoy alone on a random night and make the night your faithful bitch!

The Revenge of Frankenstein (1958)

  Baron Victor Frankenstein escapes his execution by having a priest beheaded and buried in his place. He runs to Germany where he goes by his new alias, Dr. Stein. He creates his new profile by working at a pauper's hospital but secretly he collects dead body parts in order to restart his wicked experiments...
  Another fine addition to the ever great legend of Frankenstein. Directed by none other than Terence Fischer, this film has every Hammer element we love to the max ; secret labs with oozing smoke, foggy and gloomy places and classic performances!
  Peter Cushing, once again, goes all the way in portraying the character of Dr. Frankenstein. He has achieved the unachievable by actually becoming his role. You can't tell his real intentions or whether he is good or bad. congrats to Francis Matthews as well, as his young and naive doctor accomplice.
Must watch this :  on a day with deep fog and ominous black clouds. Make yourself a cappuccino and let the film suck you into its atmosphere.

Lake of the Dead (1958) a.k.a De Dødes Tjern

  A group of friends, all Oslo residents, visit another friend in his cabin deep in the Østerdal forests. But as soon as they arrive there, he seems to be missing and his dog is founds dead at a pond nearby. It is not long before they start fearing an old legend that has the forest and the lake haunted by the spirit of a man who killed his sister and her lover and then killed himself in the lake.
  Kåre Bergstrøm gives us this magnificent horror film straight from the country of Vikings and ice! Excellent use of a supposed legend ( I don't know if that legend exists) combined with the breathtaking settings in the Norwegian forests with impressive dialogues and a more impressive character build-up. This film has a unique atmosphere (you need to be relaxed to get into it) and guarantees a weird chill in your spine!
  André Bjerke, Bjørg Engh, Henki Kolstad and the rest of the cast are an absolute treat for they eye and the ear. They are actors from another universe, a more classy universe. Plus the Norwegian language gives it a different European finesse, a more deep-into-the-roots horror! A-must-see!
Must watch this : on a gloomy,rainy December morning with shut drapes, wrapped up in blankets with a cup of cappuccino in hand! After the film, explore the Norwegian folklore myths while listening to that shit !

The Colossus Of New York (1958)

  Jeremy Spensser dies ironically right after winning the Nobel Peace Prize. His father, a brilliant doctor, unable to cope with what has happened, works secretly on his son's dead body before it is buried and succeeds in connecting the brain to a metal robot. What can go wrong?
  You gotta love these 50's Sci-Fi films.I mean ,seriously, anything can happen.This film is one that doesn't exaggerate that much in its story! Director's Eugène Lourié filmography is not vast (he was more of an art director rather than a director) but he has done a good job here.Just as good as the film deserves.
  Ross Martin spends more time "dead" than alive here but he tries to convey as many feelings and emotions  as he can get out of his metal cast role (get it? He is a robot). The rest of the cast's performances are at the same level (nothing too special about this film actually), nothing to good nothing too bad. If you ask me why to watch this, I will tell you that if you get a special reminiscing sentiment with this kind of films (like me), if you feel somewhat safe in the comfort of black-and-white and steady acting and if you enjoy a fast-paced Sci-Fi with enough holes in the plot to make you question everything, then watch this definitely. Otherwise, skip it!Your choice.
Must watch this : if you are bored with usual scenarios and want to see something eccentric.With a salad on a lazy,hot summer night!
