Invasion of Astro-Monster (1965)

A spaceship carrying two astronauts lands on Planet X which is near Jupiter. There the two astronauts discover that the planet is inhabited by the Xians who officially ask help from planet Earth to destroy the monster, King Ghidorah. Godzilla and Rodan are captured and sent to Planet X to aid them in their fight but little do humans know that they have just fallen into a trap...
A fascinating entry in the story of Godzilla and his monster friends. Directed by Ishirô Honda, this film combines all the elements of a classic successful KaiJu film. The basic storyline of the film may be too progressive (aliens invading Earth etc.) but all the beautiful monsters work their way out. There's not a chance you can't fall in love with the special effects which however non-realistic show a great talent. And of course, don't miss Godzilla's busting into a gleeful dance when he defeats Ghidorah.
Akira Takarada as Fuji may be too rough with his sister but he also has to save the entire planet together with his partner Nick Adams as Glenn. Akira Kubo saves the world by mistake when he can't even defend his love with Keiko Sawai, Fuji's sister. It is interesting how little drops of drama can work out so well with a heavy Sci-Fi story like that but hey, this is cinema after all!
Must watch this : lightly drunk on sake will do the trick. Remember to accompany with noodles or sushi (choice is yours) and friends who won't laugh too hard with the film's special effects!

Color Me Blood Red (1965)

A young painter at the end of his inspiration decides to start experimenting with his own blood instead of red paint. Finding his new project morbidly exciting, he keeps using his blood for paint until he is too weak to go on and so he starts taking blood from people he kills. When it's for art, how far is too far?
An interesting addition to the legend of Herschell Gordon Lewis, Color Me Blood Red is a flick deep into the exploitation genre. While its character is downright low-budget and amateur, its main idea and plot is quite interesting and innovative. The classic Gordon Lewis gore and fake blood effects are all there to please even the most demanding eye plus we get a handful of violence all in favor of art and creation. They just don't make them like that anymore.
For some reason, acting follows a specific pattern I would only expect from a Gordon Lewis film. Following that rule, the actors appear stiff at some points because they were not professionals and this was not a serious production but they still keep they easy-going mood, I-don't-give-much-shit-that-I-am-looking-in-the-camera approach of a true exploitation actor. Gordon Oas-Heim is the experimenting painter, Elyn Warner is his girlfriend who has to take it all and Scott H. Hall is the owner of a gallery that has the privileged to host these bloody creations.
Must watch this : with a friend who studies Art and a selection of everything red ; a juicy steak, tomatoes, red wine, a Bloody Mary etc. Then start a conversation about the pretense of most artistic endeavors and argue on what is art and what is not. Good conversations start from shitty sources!

The Topless Story (1965) a.k.a Die Oben Ohne Story

A male fashion designer has an argument with a female magazine editor and decides to leave New York. He travels around the world and ends up in Greece and various nudist colonies...
That's pretty much it. The two above lines describe fully the abysmal plot of this European sexploitation. Directed by Wolfgang Selnig, for whom it was the one and only break into cinema, The Topless Story does not re-invent the wheel but does not re-invent anything else either. Any sexploitation cliche is here and it's good but together you get all the boring aspects of an uninspired excuse for nudity. Proceed with care!
John Wala, Birgit Nielsen, Bambi Miller and Dolly Doreac and that's probably all you we need to say about the actors. That and the fact that they go around naked or meeting and having fun with other naked people! If you dig that stuff then this movie is averagely bad. I can't think what happens if you don't dig that stuff...
Must watch this : don't do that. It's a waste of an hour and 10 minutes. If you insist though, get high and have it playing in the background while you do the housework. There is no other way you can watch this.

Orgy of the Dead (1965)

John and his girlfriend Shirley go to a cemetery in order to to look for inspiration for John's upcoming horror novel. Suddenly, the dead start emerging from their graves and perform a twisted dancing ritual in front of John and Shirley's eyes...
Not every movie has to mean something. Now, that must have been Stephen C. Apostolof's motto when he decided to collaborate with Ed Wood for this "intelligent" film. This movie is a total no-brainer without even the distinct idea or insinuation of a plot, close to zero budget and non existent line of thought! Of course, all these are not necessarily bad and it depends on how you look at it! Besides being a total crap, this film is also the definition of stupid fan!
Dead people coming back to life (they don't look so dead to me!), mandatorilly naked or at least topless for the most part dancing around in psychedelic smoke, in the middle of the forest and then the orgy kicks in! For sure, these were the better days of cinema. Lots of drugs, lots of booze, lots of wannabe actors giving everything for even the tiniest part and lots of money to actually throw down the drain. This film deserves the watch just for the experience and to show you that not everything means something in life!
Must watch this : with lots of beer or any other alcohol and seven bowls of supreme weed. Call up your friends (dudes or chicks), gather up, start partying with dat steamy tune and have this playing in the background for the laughs!

Mudhoney (1965)

1933. U.S.A in Depression and Prohibition. Calif, a stranger with a hidden past on his way to California, is hired by Lute Wade in Missouri in order to get some traveling money. Calif falls in love with Lute's daughter, Hannah, but her no-good drunk husband, Sidney, stands in the way. Sidney soon turns the town against Calif with the help of a mad preacher, while he is out to get Lute's inheritance. Violence and passions breaks out!
Yet another classic by master Russ Meyer. All the classic elements of Meyer-istic film-making dance around in this film too but it somehow feels a little bit different. Maybe because there is an extra touch of drama and desperation, blending perfectly with the era of the story. A must-see for self-respecting viewers.
Standard Meyer cast! Hal Hopper, John FurlongAntoinette Cristiani, Stuart Lancaster and Frank Bolger. Run-down characters in a messed-up time trying to find their way to salvation! My personal highlight is the preacher's wife, Lee Ballard! Ultra hot and buxotic. My personal fantasy!
Must watch this :  on a hot Saturday night, right before you go out, with some good bourbon on the rocks. Nothing beats that feeling.

Tortured Females (1965)

A fully-buxom young blonde, Helen, is snatched by Mr. Big and his accomplish while she leisurely goes skinny-dipping in a lake in the woods. She is taken to a ranch nearby where she finds out that other women are held as well. The girls are used by Mr. Big to indulge his sick pleasures, until Helen decides to escape.
Arch Hudson's short-time directing career gleefully started with this flick here and ended the following year! Nonetheless, he let his own personal touch in the vibrant world of sexploitation. Nothing too special with this film here, only that it has a weird freaky vibe in it. I got the feeling that something was wrong, something lurking in the air, something threatening and sinister. But maybe it was just me.
Denine Du Bois is the celebrated star of the film, playing Helen of course. With a figure much better than her acting, I must agree she is the star of the film and blends perfectly with the rest of the female cast. Arnold Black plays their sadistic captor. Not that he is too much of an actor. Just to put it out there.
Must watch this : in between two Russ Meyer films, chilling with the dudes.

One Shocking Moment (1965)

Macho business and his wife move from Grand Rapids, Michigan to Los Angeles, California in order for the man to acquire a higher position in his firm. Their new home is in an apartment complex with several young, good-looking ladies with whom Cliff, the husband, flirts quite often. Soon after their arrival there, Cliff starts cheating on Mind, the wife, while she is in a weird game with fetishist bisexual Tanya, a club owner.
One of the numerous sexploitation flicks of the 60's that tried to introduce a sexual revolution in the prude society of their time. They may have been considered as softcore porn back then but they most certainly are not. Only some extra uncovered skin here! Ted V. Mikels, while a known exploitation director, does not brake any new ground directing or showing the "nude" but he provides with quality that these films should have. For the dedicated fans of film archiving!
Gary Kent is the only protagonist that actually became an actor afterwards while it is the one and only film that Verné Martine and Lee Anna played in! Look out for the general stiffness of the characters, so dedicated to making this film work while they struggle to stay on the script! The good thing in these films that sooner or later all characters - male and female- will have a make-out orgy with cool music in the background (not an actually orgy before the 70s duh!) which is always fun.
Must watch this :  get a buzz on with some alcohol and your parents' vinyl records before watching it. Afterwards, try convincing your friends (male and female) to have a 60s orgy but ,because you will most probably fail, drink some more and dance naked with this !
A little taste

The Skull (1965)

A collector of historic and occult antiquities gets hold of a human skull from his usual provider that is supposed to have belonged to the notorious Marquis De Sade. Soon, the collector finds that the skull is possessed by an evil spirit that turns him into a maniac killer!
Long live the British classy horror story mood! It may seem like one of the numerous horror films by legendary by Hammer Films but it is actually the work of Amicus Productions, another British company dealing with the horror genre. Story by well-known Robert Bloch and directed under the guidance of director Freddie Francis, this film perfectly adds to the majesty of British horror in its own way.
Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing ! There has never been a better duo in the history of film (personal opinion). One completes and competes the other in almost every film they have starred in. It is almost as one gives reason to the other to exist. Like good and evil, yin and yang, love and hate, they would not exist without each other! See this not only for their performance ( and the other actors' too) but also for these incredible British sets ; libraries, English foggy and gloomy weather, gentlemen of another age and horror from beyond this world!
Must watch this : on a cold November night, with a cup of premium Earl Grey,by the fireplace (or under your blankets is you don't have one) and your favorite cuddling person.

Motor Psycho (1965)

Three motorcyclists get their groove on by raping women and causing chaos, under the leadership of an ex-Vietnam violent maniac. After they rape a quiet veterinarian's wife, he puts aside his personality and goes on to take his revenge with the help of a Cajun woman, whose husband was murdered by the gang. Who will kill who?
There is not a single movie by Russ Meyer that I can characterize as not perfect! His movies have everything an open mind can seek in cinema ; thrills, dialogues, special characters, a normal story of violence in a picturesque place. Russ Meyer makes me want to live in his magic universe of seductive everyday women, dusty old places and muscle cars! Damn, I hate reality.
Every actor in this film (and in any other Meyer film) is carefully chosen and it would take long to analyze each character's progress. Alex Rocco and Haji are the protagonist duo and the flame and passion of their lust for violent vengeance is all around the film. They even have an awkward fling thing going on! Must-watch if you respect yourself!
Must watch this : Russ Meyer is all about macho, sophisticated men and smart, curvacious women so watch this, overload your sexual identity and then start a long steamy conversation with solid statements leading up to sex! Must be an insufferably hot summer night, with a glass of Southern Comfort and the company of a classy, curvy lady (or your pick of a guy if you are a girl).
No trailer but it will do
