Blacula (1972)

Mamuwalde, an African prince in ancient times, gets bitten by Lord Dracula and turns into a vampire. After his deep slumber, Mamuwalde wakes up 70's Los Angeles ans spreads funky fear and horror as Blacula...
Love or hate blaxploitation, you gotta to admit these guys had some serious sense of humor. Every 60s-70s famous film you think of, you can find its blaxploitation doppelganger. And you just can't but laugh at the wordplay of the original titles. I mean, Blacula? Who ever came up with that. All jokes aside though, director William Crain's only film is considered a blaxploitation classic as well as a comedy horror milestone. So, don't get too judgemental while watching it.
Blacula is played by William Marshall who is not your average low quality actor but a very dynamic personality instead! And since this is a blaxploitation film, you get to see all of these black vampire mamas,
Vonetta McGee and Denise Nicholas. Lastly, for all you Sci-Fi freaks out there, you may even recognize Thalmus Rasulala only without the uniform.
Must watch this : get a motherfuckin' big bucket of supreme K.F.C, a proper manly volume of Pepsi Twist and your super-pumped vaporizer with Vaponaute flavor! Now that's cult, ladies and gentlemen!

Street of a Thousand Pleasures (1972)

An American tourist traveling to an unnamed Middle Eastern country, saves the life of the local sheik. To return the favor and to express his gratitude, the sheik takes the young man to the Street of 1000 Pleasures where he can choose any woman he likes...
And that's about all anyone can say about the plot of this film. Believe me when I say that in the first 5 or 6 minutes, the story has already run its course. Devoted nudie director William Rotsler does a very smart job although seemingly stupid; he knows the film is just an excuse for nudity and tits so he quickly gets over with the plot (because there has to be one) and lets the viewer take what he came for...
Besides the young tourist who is played by Garth Ruger, the rest of the cast is all female. And we are not talking about 10-20 more actors, we are talking about almost 100 ladies flashing off their beauties casually in the film. Among them you can find Uschi Digard in a minor nude role and Malta while the rest of the ladies are mostly unknown amateur actresses.
Must watch this : with a glass of Black Russian on a random boring weekday evening. Call up your friends and have it playing in the background while you chill. The random pauses for tits and ass will be very satisfying!

Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii (1972)

Pink Floyd performs live at an ancient amphitheater in Italy without any audience. Between the songs, we witness Pink Floyd backstage sharing secrets of their music or just having fun while the camera travels through the psychedelic Italian scenery of Pompeii....
Adrian Maben, mostly known for his documentaries, directs probably one of the best live performances ever recorded. Pink Floyd performs and the camera wanders among them idly, documenting their faces and their movements while they trip out. An homage to any stoner, any person that daydreams all day, any one that enjoys a psychedelic trip, this film is not only an undoubted truth of Floyd's excellence but also an outstanding trip to the viewer's soul, a cleansing of some sort. Calm grooves and bombing musical outbursts guide you through the outer realm of your mind and let you play there along the beaches of the lonely island that is your existence in out universe...
Must watch this : shut the drapes, get some incense burning, prepare some Jasmine tea, lay down the floor and have this playing. Close your eyes from time to time to help you trip better. After the film, lay still on the floor, eyes shut, this prayer playing and try to find the meaning of your existence. Stop when you think you are going too insane!

Daughter of Dracula (1972) a.ka La Fille de Dracula

Upon seeing her grandmother dying, Luisa is told of her family's curse ; they are all vampires. To settle her grief, Luisa decides to stay in the family estate with her uncle and her cousin. Soon she will find out that she can't run away from her family's curse...
The old and tricky Jess Franco we all love strikes back! European finesse and glamor meets a classic horror story with a saucy and sexy twist. This film is highly atmospheric and trippy so be careful not to dive too deep in unknown waters. Gloomy castles, picturesque countryside and weird families with even more weird secrets. With proper amounts of carefully handled nudity and pinches of pure exploitation, this is another must-watch by the notorious Franco!
Britt Nichols, Howard Vernon, Anne Libert and Alberto Dalbés. A classic Franco cast in classic combination. All great actors grasping the story and mood of the film by the balls and shoving heavily psychedelic drugs down its throat. Enjoy with caution.
Must watch this : with a clear mind at first but then be sure to do something that will cloud your senses and let your swim into the perverted lake of dreams that is Franco's films! Accompany with a company in an equal state of mind.

Terror At Orgy Castle (1972)

A young American couple on their European vacation stay overnight in a castle. Without their will, they get involved in the hostess' rituals and black magic initiations. Although, they are not taking part as followers but as the main interest...
Zoltan G. Spencer's last movie but certainly his least. Besides the rituals and softcore sex in them, this movie is pure shit! Whether this is a good thing or not, it is left to you to decide. I certainly had my dose of the sexploitation fun that I was looking for. It is so bad that I actually like it. Approach with caution!
Nothing exceptional or too weird here! Classic sexploitation acting, which is no actual acting at all, only this time the actors don't even get to speak. I suppose adding sound was too expensive so they went with a narrating voice to cover it up! One thing that really got me was the goat mask that one of the participants is wearing. Really sick!
Must watch this : , not! But if have to you should definitely mute it and put this sick bastard playing in the background. The result is downright far-out! Enjoy with a juicy burger!

Night of the Lepus (1972)

An Arizona ranch is infested with mongrel rabbits. To take rid of them, owner of the ranch gets the help of a special zoologist who starts injecting these rabbits with hormones and genetically mutated blood in order to disrupt their reproduction. A genetically enlarged test rabbit escapes and it is out for blood...
You just gotta love these good old 70s Sci-Fi with environmental awareness. William F. Claxton directs this fluffy masterpiece that will surely have you changing between laughing madly and feeling thrilled. The sets are groovy and laid-back (desert scenes and ranches), the acting is quite good and the rabbits are malicious! What are you waiting for?
DeForest Kelly (Star Trek), Rory Calhoun and Stuart Whitman. All hard-case male characters, the good ol' American way. They turn from scientists and college presidents to gunslingers in a second. Female cast boasts hotty pants Janet Leigh (Psycho) in a not so screaming role!
Must watch this : with a plate of slow-cooked rabbit stew (he he he), a pint of dark beer and a big ass cigar. Invite your friends and enjoy!

Jeremiah Johnson (1972)

Jeremiah Johnson, a Mexican war veteran, decides to leave society and live in the mountains as a trapper. His new life does not start so well and he even loses his wife and kid to vengeance after trespassing sacred Indian land. Without any choice, he starts a vendetta with the Crows...
Sydney Pollack is no stranger to making great films and this one is one hell of a film. Breathtaking scenery (Rocky Mountains nature), a classic story of western revenge and a great set of downtrodden characters. Personally, it is one of the best westerns (besides Sergio Leone's classics) and a part of that comes out of the fact that this film was loosely based on a rea mountain man, Liver-Eating Johnson. Art imitating life? That's smart!
Robert Redford is one tough motherfucker. Maybe not as tough as other western characters but he is one devoted, slightly depressed family man. Anyway, he gets shit done and he does so in the way he should. Hats off to Will Geer as well, who plays the role of an old-school mountain man who teaches Jeremiah all the tricks of the trade.
Must watch this : prepare a cup of the finest mountain herbal tea you can find, throw a huge ass stake on the grill and enjoy this film on a cold winter night by the fireplace (if you have one). While watching the film, polish your great great grandpa's rifle...

Virgin Witch (1972)

Young, aspiring model Christine gets her big chance at a modelling career when she is called for shooting at a castle. She and her sister Betty go on this crazy weekend, only to find that their hosts had other plans for Christine as they were aiming at inducting her at their witch coven. Little did they know that Christine had other plans too...
Prolific TV director Ray Austin gives us this classic piece of British horror and exploitation. Interesting story with a classic twist (classic for its time, nowadays it would be ridiculous), beautiful landscape and castle scenes and above all saucy, devilish women! My favorite parts of course are the sacredly performed coven rituals (more like motives for orgies) and all that foggy, sex-scented air of the film.
The big deal here are the Michelle twins, Ann and Vicki, who play sisters Christine and Betty. One is good, one is bad but both are out for all they can grab. Patricia Haines also chips in as the the lesbian boss of the model agency, cult in her own way and Neil Hallett as the the shady coven leader. Seductive and witchy soundtrack, too. Check this one out!
Must watch this : in a house in a rural area,on a windy night with a lit fire in the fireplace, a nice cup of chocolate in hand and a naughty temptress by your side covered up with her quilt blanket!

Across 110th Street (1972)

Two amateur, small-time crooks go on and try to rob the Mafia off 300,000 $. Two cops (old-timer white cop and young black cop) put aside their differences and try to stop while trying to prevent a gang war. Black vs. White vs. crime!
A Blaxploitation movie but with a better budget ( thank MGM). Barry Shear (almost entirely worked on television) directs this softer Blaxploitation (by softer I mean it has white good guys too) and brings a new life and breeze to the genre. The director has actually managed to portray not only the two-ways racism between white and black folk but also has tried to convey some between-the-lines anti-racism messages. This movie is pure entertainment with gunshots and car chases but has some good thinking food too. Look out for the soundtrack too (classic funky jazz) !
Anthony Quinn along with Yaphet Kotto play the hard-boiled, unconventional crime-fighting duo. No need to address either one of them as they are notorious in the badass section of men roles. Quinn with his mature,world-hating, old-school ways and Kotto with his muscular, active overdrive to fight crime! A must-see for classic film appreciators.
Must watch this : dressed up with your fancy suit and Fedora hat, with a glass of good whiskey, a fine cigar and an even finer ebony prostitute! Only way to catch the Black Mafia vibe. Get your funk on!
