Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979) a.k.a Nosferatu : Phantom der Nacht

Jonathan Harker, a young estate agent, is sent to Transylvania in order to settle a deal with Count Dracula who wants to buy a house in Wismar, where Jonathan lives. Despite all objections, Jonathan meets the Count and is in to find out his horrible nature...
Werner Herzog may have just directed the best Dracula film ever to be made. This film is more than just an art house remake of the 1922 classic and definitely more raw than the 1992 contemporary classic. The atmosphere of the film is simply one of eeriest and gloomiest ones you'll ever feel in a horror film - it's like you know someone is following you behind the bushes - and the doom goes on and on and on until you are left with your mouth open.
Oh glorious Klaus Kinski. Proving once again his undoubted talent, Kinski has the balls to play Nosferatu, The King of Vampyres, in a fashion that respects the original and brings a whole new essence to the character. Equally stunning is Bruno Ganz and Isabelle Adjan, who play the unfortunate couple that happens to be in the way of the creature of the night. Especially the last scenes where Bruno becomes dazed and Isabelle wanders the streets now filled with the plague are artistically awe-inspiring.
Must watch this :  on the rainiest night so far. Make a Bloody Mary, get covered with a blanket and enjoy this creeper while the storm outside plays a song of death and misery! Yikes!

Erotic Nights Of The Living Dead (1980) Le Notti Erotiche Dei Morti Viventi

A land developer buys an island and plans to build and operate a luxury hotel there. He gets to the island with his girlfriend and the captain that took them there. Soon, they meet a voodoo shaman couple who warns them that the island is cursed and staying there will be dangerous...
This might just one of the most intriguing porn movie I have ever seen. And, yes, you got me ; It's a porn film (hardcore) but the profound presence of a story makes you forget all about it! Amazing, idyllic and tropic sceneries make the perfect spot for a porn movie but what happens when voodoo zombies start coming up, hungry for flesh? Well, Joe D'Amato really has the answer but you have to watch it to believe it. It's like a hot-and-cold shower ; one time hot, steamy sex scenes and the other horrifying, gory zombies!
Laura Gemser seems like she was made for such roles! Even when she has to portray zero acting talent, she swags off the scenes with her nudity and amazing blank look on her eyes. George Eastman is also quite enjoyable and he had to be since this is his story, Dirce Funari is a classic minx and Mark Shannon got hired only for his mustache!
Must watch this :  if you watch it alone, it will be an amazing experience, since you will be watching porn with the most amazing plot twist. If you watch it with someone, your girlfriend might be the most suitable person. If she doesn't appreciate it, slap her back to her senses!

Ceremonia Sangrienta (1973) a.k.a The Legend of Blood Castle

An ageing cursed Countess finds that the blood of young women seems to restore her long lost youth and beauty. She falls in love with a young man whom she gets to bring her fresh dead girls using his vampiric curse and her thirst for blood never ends...
Quality horror director Jorge Grau leaves his mark on yet another jaw-dropping film. The film narrates the story of Countess Bathory who allegedly bathed in the blood of young girls in order to stay young. Using a profound heavy atmosphere with silent and slow dialogues, the Grau manages to create a beautiful frightening  mood, like a sense that someone is after you. There is some nudity (of course, this is Europe) and some delightfully handled gore that definitely adds to the Gothic morale of the film.
Lucia Boséius just the right person for playing Erzebeth Bathory. Her posture is magnificent and she seems to move like a real Countess. Espartaco Santoni is not such a good vampire but he gives real credit to his character while Ewa Aulin is the classic minx that can make even living dead fall in love with her. If it weren't for the actors' serious performances, the film would have been much more trashy and the whole horror quality would have been thrown down the drain!
Must watch this : on a rainy October night, alone with only a glass of sweet red wine.

Castle of Blood (1964) a.k.a Danza Macabra

Journalist Alan Foster argues with Edgar Allan Poe about the authenticity of his stories and in the end the journalist accepts an abnormal bet by a Lord Blackwood ; he has to survive one night in a haunted castle on the night of All Soul's Eve. Much to the journalist's disbelief, spirits and ghost of those murdered there start to appear and re-enact how they were murdered...
From the golden era of Italian gothic horror, comes this fine film by master Antonio Margheriti. Sergio Corbucci also leaves a small trace in this atmospheric trip into the twilight zone. Ghost legends and stories about murder were always fascinating and Castle of Blood exploits that human niche for paranormal entities in the spookiest of ways. The atmosphere and tensity of the film is elevated to another level by the astounding goth settings that give a higher tone of credibility to the story.
Georges Rivière plays the journalist who so bravely entered the ghost castle and fell in love with a ghost pretending to be alive, the magnificent Barbara Steele. Margrete Robsahm, Arturo Dominici and Silvano Tranquilli (as Edgar Allan Poe) fill up the remaining seats but once again the awe-inspiring posture of Barbara Steele once again leads the dance of the dead!
Must watch this : on an unholy summer night, light up the most red candles you can find and dim all lights as much as possible. Invite your unholy girl, serve the most ghostly sweet red wine and proceed with the seance of watching this film. After the initial seance, continue with a sexual seance under the influence of the unholy fuzz .

Vampyros Lesbos (1971)

Linda Westinghouse works in a Turkish legal firm and is often troubled with erotic nightmares about a sexy female vampire that seduces her. When she gets assigned on the case of Countess Nadine Carody, Linda recognizes in her the vampire of her dreams. Is Linda losing her mind or is it all happening?
Summer has deeply kicked in around here and the only thing better than a cold beer is a Jess Franco film about lesbian vampires, trippy psychedelia and erotic atmosphere. Using his well-known techniques, Franco manages to emphasize on the beauty of the woman body creating a picturesque result without falling into the trap of porn. Dreamy sequences, hazy mood, a pure 60's psychedelic soundtrack by Siegfried Schwab and a plot that is exploitative enough will definitely make you lose your mind.
Ewa Strömberg is Linda, a pretty young lady who is gets hunted by the seducing vampire Countess Nadine, beautifully played by Soledad Miranda. Both actresses display some very theatrical talent in their performances but undoubtedly Soledad stands out for the incredible look in her eyes. Something between "high beyond all points" and "horny as hell" that surely made Dennis Price fall for her charm and powers.
Must watch this : after you have consumed a hefty amount of bad quality alcohol, a pack of cigarettes and a manly joint, allow yourself to be drowned in this film's heavy smoke on a random hot summer night. Cool off with a ride in your car and this fucker blasting !

Zombie Lake (1981) a.k.a Le Lac des Morts Vivants

1950s. Somewhere in post-war France, in a small village by a lake, people are starting to get killed once they go swimming or fishing in the lake. Soon, the village folk will find out that German soldiers killed during the WWII and thrown into the lake, are starting to reanimate and spread terror. Why are they turning back to life and how can they save their lives?...
The overall quality of this film is so bad that it makes the film be actually superb. Jean Rollin directs (he later stated that he really regrets it) in the place of Jess Franco and the cult factor meter goes way too high. With enough nudity to be classified as a softcore flick, this film contains equal amount of super-cheap gore, Nazis and of course a humorous mood of "I don't actually care much". A must see for anyone who is eager to laugh!
The absence of a serious plot and film progress does not let many of the actors portray their real talent, if any. However, Howard Vernon stands out for his unique style of acting and for being a usual underground personality which we enjoy to see!
Must watch this : with a bottle of sweet red wine, a selection of cheese and charcuterie and some tobacco. Blend with a fine company of your choice.

The Werewolf Vs. The Vampire Woman (1971) a.k.a La Noche de Walpurgis

Elvira and Genevieve are traveling through the French countryside in search of a tomb from the medieval times, Countess Wandessa's. The tomb happens to be inside the property of Waldemar Daninsky, who invites to stay for as long as they want and do their digging up. When Elvira accidentally wakes up the vampire Wandessa, Waldemar is the only one who can save them. Or is he?
Cult director León Klimovsky joins forces with Paul Naschy and the result is more than stunning. Despite its ridiculous funding (the special effects are ultra cheap but we love them like that), the film does not fail to amaze you with its fantastic settings and unbeatable atmosphere. The story is classic EuroHorror, exploiting in every way it can the legends of vampires and werewolves and creating an eerie mood that makes your spine shiver.
Paul Naschy is one true legend of the cult! His work stands out of the fog of the EuroHorror genre and gives his own unique trashy style! His transformation from man to werewolf is remarkable in this film and so is his role as a noble man. Patty Shepard is his seductive arch enemy and Gaby Fuchs with Barbara Capell are the two nymphs that were looking to get in trouble!
Must watch this :  on a windy spring night when it's not too hot. Make a Bloody Mary and enjoy this film with the cool wind giving you the creeps!

Daughter of Dracula (1972) a.ka La Fille de Dracula

Upon seeing her grandmother dying, Luisa is told of her family's curse ; they are all vampires. To settle her grief, Luisa decides to stay in the family estate with her uncle and her cousin. Soon she will find out that she can't run away from her family's curse...
The old and tricky Jess Franco we all love strikes back! European finesse and glamor meets a classic horror story with a saucy and sexy twist. This film is highly atmospheric and trippy so be careful not to dive too deep in unknown waters. Gloomy castles, picturesque countryside and weird families with even more weird secrets. With proper amounts of carefully handled nudity and pinches of pure exploitation, this is another must-watch by the notorious Franco!
Britt Nichols, Howard Vernon, Anne Libert and Alberto Dalbés. A classic Franco cast in classic combination. All great actors grasping the story and mood of the film by the balls and shoving heavily psychedelic drugs down its throat. Enjoy with caution.
Must watch this : with a clear mind at first but then be sure to do something that will cloud your senses and let your swim into the perverted lake of dreams that is Franco's films! Accompany with a company in an equal state of mind.

Mill of the Stone Women (1960) a.k.a Il Mulino Delle Donne Di Pietra

Hans arrives to a town near Amsterdam to cover a story about Professor Val, a notable sculptor who lives in an old mill house with his beautiful daughter. The people of the town calls this mill the Mill of the Stone Women and soon Hans will find out why...
Prolific Giorgio Ferroni directs this notable 60's horror film. The mood and atmosphere of the film are amazing and that is thanks to the characteristic Italian know-how for the genre. Squeaky floors, spooky statues, a mysterious plot and a devilish love that was never meant to be. Nothing can beat that, not even the scenario that sometimes may have you puzzled.
Pierre Brice is amazing as leading role Hans who has to choose between two beautiful women while trying to determine if he is high or not! Honey Dany Carrel is Lisalotte and Scilla Gabel is her arch enemy in this twisted game of love. High-tense performances and gloomy vibe take this film to another level!
Must watch this : on a stormy afternoon, at twilight. Have a pizza ready, a glass of sweet red wine and a fine company of the opposite gender. Enjoy it petrified (hue hue) under your blankets and who knows what might come out!

A Virgin Among the Living Dead (1973) a.k.a La nuit des étoiles filantes

A girl arrives to France from London in order to be present at her dead father's will reading. She visits her long-lost relatives and just when she decided to stay with them, unusual things start to happen. She is tortured by strange visions and nightmares including lesbian love and satanic rituals with her a sacrifice. A big secret is about to be disclosed...
Jess Franco in da house and he is about to fuck your brains out. Without protection! Straight from the abyssal depths of Franco's imagination, comes this fine piece of Eurosleaze and Eurohorror sexploitation. French mood in the air combined with spooky castle sets and acting from beyond the realms of reality! Yikes, I feel the chills even now!
The usual Franco cast in new adventures for the not-easily-offended! Christina von Blanc as Christina (!), the young daughter of the deceased man. Britt Nichols, Rosa Palomar, Anne Libert gather up to complete the female cast and damn they are horrifyingly hot! Psycho Howard Vernon is the uncle you don't want to have as a relative but he is there, condemning your existence at family dinners!
Must watch this : with a girl and only the light from some lit red candles. You have to have sex after the film (it is Jess Franco so if you don't you disrespect him). Have the film playing again in mute, blast that unholly shit and go nuts!

Werewolf Woman (1976) a.k.a La Lupa Mannara

A young woman, who was raped as a child, convinces herself she is a werewolf. She goes out at night, finds men, has sex with them and the she rips their throat out with her teeth. In a twist of events, she falls in love but her lover is killed and she is raped once again. Look out she is coming for revenge!
Eurosleaze and EuroHorror director Rino Di Silvestro puts his mark on this one. A very interesting film indeed with a title that may have you think otherwise. Don't expect the usual paranormal-supernatural horror movie. This one here dares to swim in the dangerous waters of psychological thriller! With enough nudity and sex to make think otherwise, this film does indeed approach the story in a more serious ways while exploiting it! See for yourself.
Annik Borel is the werewolf woman and she is really something. Crazy eyes, maniac movement and insatiable sex drive, all wrapped up in a tiny little body. Plus, the transformation sequence from woman to werewolf works pretty cool on her. Beautiful European sets, tons of sex, a twisted story like no other, what are you still waiting for?
Must watch this : with a lady friend on her period (for obvious reasons) and some good Italian pasta. All following consequences are sure to shock you.
