RocknRolla (2008)

London mobster Lenny Cole and a Russian "entrepreneur" try to set up a multimillion real estate scam. The accountant of the Russian together with  a small-time street gangster and his gang try to get their share of the loot. Meanwhile, a young rockstar feigns death to increase his albums' sales...
Guy Ritchie does his thing again. This time it's not the small gangs, the gypsies or the gamblers...This time money goes big, the scams now are multinational and the players are white collar yuppies with just the right-wrong vices. OK, this movie is no Lock, Stock but it also has a great soundtrack and it's ten times better than anything else out there. Plus, it is always nice to see something from the English Tarantino!
Bad guy actors and a bodacious temptress parade in this film. Gerard Butler, Tom Wilkinson, Thandie Newton, Mark Strong, Tom Hardy, Karel Roden and Toby Kebbell...American badassery translated into the sophisticated but still wild streets of London, bringing a more human touch to the definition of criminals with honor.
Must watch this :  with the dudes, cheap junk food, cheaper beer and good mood. After the film, brainstorm and try to find a way to make easy money with clever scams. Realize that you need big balls for it so just chill with this groovy fucka and daydream of your potential life in riches!

Pineapple Express (2008)

A process server loses hold of his life when he goes to the right place at the wrong time. Now, he and his drug dealer need to run away from hitmen and corrupt police in order to stay alive out of the ongoing drug war they found themselves into. Of course, all of this is extremely difficult while in the haze of the new strain of pot named Pineapple Express...
Directed by David Gordon Green and written by non other than Seth Rogen and his buds, this may be the landmark of new-age stoner comedy (at least for me). Benevolent humor with a great dose of THC mixed in it and an air of freshness and cool vibes, this film will put a smile on your face no matter what you have smoked.
Seth Rogen, James Franco, Danny McBride, Kevin Corrigan and Craig Robinson are the delinquent team that star here. Young, funny, weirdly motivated and utterly high, they are a promising new hope for the future of the genre. My personal favorite is Craig Robinson; this motherfucker is off the hook.
Must watch this : with a big ass joint in hand (or plenty of alcohol) and cheap food for the munchies. Gather your bros and blaze one up!

Chocolate (2008)

Zin falls in love with Yakuza boss Masashi but they separated by force. Zin gives birth to his child, the autistic Zen. Zen becomes infatuated with martial arts and turns out to be quite the martial arts expert. When Zen's mother gets cancer, she has to find a way to collect money. So, withe the help of her friend Moom, Zen goes out to collect anything she can get from those who owe to her mother.
Coming from miles away from the western world, where martial arts movies are as real as they get, Chocolate is a real treat for the eye. Directed by Prachya Pinkaew, a well-established Thai director of the genre, this movie is filled up to the neck with impressive TaeKwonDo and other martial arts stunts while delivering a mild dose of drama. A weird combination but it definitely pays out in the end.
Yanin Vismitananda stars in this movie and Taphon Phopwandee is her not-so-bright-but-ok sidekick who helps her on the difficult task of collecting dirty debt money while battling with her insecurities. Yanin is an impressive TaeKwonDo-ka wo does not fail to perform equally good as an actor. Her portrayal of the autistic girl is actually quite good
Must watch this :on a random summer day. Prepare yourself a hefty bowl of Thai noodles with vegetables (or just order out), pour some low-quality Coca Cola knock-off and enjoy this with your friends. Then, try to do everything you saw and miserably come to fact that you can't.

Step Brothers (2008)

39-year-old Brennan and 40-year-old Dale, two unemployed losers who still live with their parents, become step brothers when Brennan's mom gets married to Dale's dad. Anarchy and chaos will prevail until they finally get to like each other. But now, they have to prove that they have grown up.
Wow. This is the resurrection of American comedy. Directed by Adam McKay, this film guarantees unlimited laughter. It is a typical American family mix up only this time the kids are actually 40-year-old spoiled brats. That fact alone is pathetically hilarious on its own.
Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are here to "fuck shit up". They have incredible chemistry as a comedy duo. Their portrayal of spoiled teenagers is outstandingly sarcastic and the punchlines come and go, one being better than the other.
Must watch this : with your buds and 3 cans of beer each. Girls are not needed this time, though welcome if necessary. After the film, host a fight championship, worry about where you are going in life but then blast this and forget everything!
