Toy Story (1995)

Woody, a cowboy doll sees his life as Andy's toy getting out of control as Andy gets a new toy for his birthday ; an amazing new spaceman figure, Buzz. And if that wasn't enough, Andy is moving out and Woody has to make sure he remains his favorite toy...
John Lasseter, devoted to the animation genre is responsible for the first cinema craze that swept over many kids back in 1995 and I am glad to be one of them. The concept of Toy Story to this day has me amazed, as even now the chance of toys communicating with each other and collaborating strikes me as utterly unreal. And it's even more thrilling (especially as a kid) when these toys have unique personalities, they are goofy and funny and have strong friendship bonds and sworn enemies.
Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles and many other well-known actors give life and their voices to the characters of Toy Story and the result is really something. The humor throughout the film is appropriate not only for kids but also for adults who can find saucy spots! Now that I think of it, maybe I should watch again all the films I liked a kid. Maybe there's more saucy spots hiding from my lost innocent mind!
Must watch this : if you are a kid, nag to your parents to let you watch this (again if you already have) and watch it again when you hit 18. If you're grown up (my condolences), watch it again with your primary school friends from the days of yore. In each case, after the film go to McDonald's for a Kids Menu and get nasty with ringing doorbells and running away.

Bachelor Party (1984)

Rick Gassko is what you would define a devoted womanizer ; never cares too much about anything, always finds an opportunity to flirt and is always talking about women with his gang. When he decides to get married, his friends organize his bachelor party where he has to prove his loyalty and how serious he can be...
Around a decade before movies about male friends and casual sex adventures started being catchy, Bachelor Party innocently set the standards! Neal Israel hasn't done such a great job (for a comedy about guys it could have been much funnier) but he took the tradition of the bachelor party and stretched to every extend to see which aspect can be humorous and which can't. The outcome is a casual 105 minutes of slapstick humor and lame puns which in the end leaves a smile on the viewer's face.
Tom Hanks in his early steps is quite something. His energy and moves show a great bursting character and in the case of this film here, he appears as immature as the role wants him to be. His brother, William Tepper, is as iconic as he is and Tawny Kitaen is the lucky lady who gets to marry him. The rest of the gang is
Barry Diamond, Gary Grossman, Gradford Bancroft, Michael Dudikoff and Adrian Zmed and they are all out to get what hey have waited for so many years. Booze and hookers is the law!
Must watch this : when the most idiot of your friends decides to get married first (you know who that is even before that happens) from the gang. Get ideas about his bachelor party and no matter how much he protests against it, make this party one to be remembered! Just in case, make sure get the strippers' and hookers' phone number!

Cast Away (2000)

A FedEx executive seems to have his life planned ; a good job, a perfect girlfriend and a marriage on the way. All these are about to change as his plane crashes somewhere in the Pacific Ocean during a storm. Stranded on a deserted island, he must find a way to get back or face the fact that he will die there...
Robert Zemeckis trusts Tom Hanks once again and the result is a perfect mix drama and soft comedy. Trying to pry into the mind and feelings of a person alienated from his peers, Cast Away draws fine allegories between a cast way and each and every one of us that may be surrounded by people but still feel alone. Amusing humor and nice settings guarantee a good-mood film but the ocean of mixed feelings portrayed here will certainly allow you to connect more with the character. A fine drama film but not too dramatic!
Alongside Tom Hanks, Helen Hunt, as his girlfriend, has the only second bigger role. Hats off to Tom Hanks for managing to carry the weight of a film with basically only one character inside it. You can witness the stages of a man on the edge of losing his mind but never losing his hope. Besides, not many actors can make friends with a volley ball and still make you feel sad when they get separated.
Must watch this : right before you set off for vacation somewhere far, watch this and get emotionally prepared for anything. Enjoy with a cold beer of your choice and corn salad. Watch it with a friend (or more) and feel blessed that you may not be so alone in the universe after all.

Catch Me If You Can (2002)

The true story of Frank Abagnale Jr., an extremely young forger who by the age of 19 managed to scam money out of Pan Am, hospitals and lawyer offices. An inside look in his life and deeds and how he was finally apprehended by F.B.I agent Carl Hanratty...
Having spent years in the process of development, this film was finally let to Steven Spielberg to direct. Using his own mix of drama, comedy and action, Spielberg manages to give an easy-flowing depiction of a real-life anti-hero while presenting us with both side of the same coin. The photography and overall settings really built up the momentum of the film and give it an international police-and-thieves kind of mood.
Tom Hanks plays the cat chasing the smart little mouse Leonardo DiCaprio. Completing each other lives, personalities and actions, Hanks and DiCaprio manage to become a duo of authentic hero/arch enemy and the beauty is that you can;t see who is who. Completing the cast is Christopher Walken, Nathalie Baye and Amy Adams.
Must watch this :  in the middle of spring with a Mojito and a shrimp salad. After the film, plan a trip to Italy because that's the only way to feel even a bit as cool and cunning as Frank Abagnale Jr..

Forrest Gump (1994), by Silent Guardian

The interesting story of "Forrest, Forrest Gump" as he used to say, born with mental retardation and leg problems. Doctors advise his mother that "he just ain't like the other kids" but she thinks otherwise.Forrest goes to school, meets Jenny (the one and only girl of his life), goes to college, plays for the football team and then Vietnam! He parts ways with Jenny and  from there Forrest lives his Odyssey : Medal of Honor, Ping Pong Championships, Shrimp Company "Bubba-Gump" ,running throughout the States etc. In a sudden twist, Jenny comes back to his life and out she goes again!
Ah, Forrest Gump... What can we say about this film?? My most favorite one by far... It teaches us about love, willingness, true things that value and have no "value" such as: true friendship, determination and dumb intelligence. Director Robert Zemeckis gives us this masterpiece, filled with comedy and drama in different combinations! "Lieutenant Dan got me invested in some kind of fruit company. So then I got a call from him, saying we don’t have to worry about money no more. And I said, that’s good! One less thing."
Tom Hanks in the role of his life, though he "never  went full retard" and Robin Wright always playing "Catch me if you can" with him. Filled with social messages and advice on a happier life (wisdom , dumb intelligence, success and how to handle it,love and friendship) all bound together by the most astonishing soundtrack ever.
Must watch this: with your friend parissleep, or any other best friend you have, laughing, eating nachos and fonzies, with natural orange juice on a summer afternoon.Feel happy until the next bad moment comes. When it does, blast that shit and feel happy again.
Alternate must watch this: sometime in future, with your kids, and your wife laying on the bed... After you have educated your children well, go to bed with your wife, and fondle her breasts and her curvy spots, making her feel sexy as Jenny. And then remind her that, this life is only for once. We have to be happy, no matter what.
***Specially devoted to: parissleep and my family, which may have been apart for 7 years now, but I will never forget the nights we're watching this film together, and the messages that I got, especially from my father.
