  Michael Cimino may have directed the most epic anti-war film ever made. Much like Apocalypse Now, The Deer Hunter is a non-stop sequence through intense scenes that put you right into the shoes of the characters. Showing how easily a war can affect even people that are not directly in it, this film draws a fine picture of what the toll of war is to everyday people. Heavily emotional,gloom and ironic in every chance, this is a film not for the faint of heart.
  Robert De Niro, in one of his classic and probably best performances, plays a man who is left to carry the weight of war twice around the world in order to save the life of his best friend, Christopher Walken, when he finds out he is still alive in Vietnam. Walken is a magnificent depiction of the psychological effect and derangement of war while John Savage, another friend and survivor, is back home but denied by all of his friends and family. John Cazale is equally stunning as a true ignorant of anything and Meryl Streep swaggers between depression and dean-ends.
Must watch this : if you watch this with people, make sure they are not the loud kind during films. Cook something together and then lets the film's 3 hours drive you into a silent dungeon and fuck you up emotionally. After the film, make sure you use that emotional weight on a constructive dialogue!

  Another Stephen King novel finds its way to the big screen. David Cronenberg gets on with his magic stick ad even though he decided to jump through the book at most parts, the result is still acceptable for any King fan. The classic 80's colors make the film look exactly like what the novel tried to portray and the tension rises gradually and harmoniously. Cronenberg does an overall great job and he still manages to keep the novel's main food for thought ; if you knew, would you do it?
  Bill Murray was King's choice for the leading part but instead Christopher Walken was chosen to be Johnny Smith. Walken's out-of-earth look and uneasy posture give a tremendous plus to his portraying of the character while his slow speech and pause through his movements makes you believe he has actually waked from a coma. Brooke Adams is his long lost girlfriend, Herbert Lom is his friend and doctor, Anthony Zerbe is the man who helps him stand back on his feet and Martin Sheen is his arch enemy and his final mission. 
Must watch this : with garlic bread and Coca Cola, wrapped up in blankets on a random cold melancholic winter night! Each film to its own mood!

  Having spent years in the process of development, this film was finally let to Steven Spielberg to direct. Using his own mix of drama, comedy and action, Spielberg manages to give an easy-flowing depiction of a real-life anti-hero while presenting us with both side of the same coin. The photography and overall settings really built up the momentum of the film and give it an international police-and-thieves kind of mood.
  Tom Hanks plays the cat chasing the smart little mouse Leonardo DiCaprio. Completing each other lives, personalities and actions, Hanks and DiCaprio manage to become a duo of authentic hero/arch enemy and the beauty is that you can;t see who is who. Completing the cast is Christopher Walken, Nathalie Baye and Amy Adams.
Must watch this :  in the middle of spring with a Mojito and a shrimp salad. After the film, plan a trip to Italy because that's the only way to feel even a bit as cool and cunning as Frank Abagnale Jr..

Sleepy Hollow (1999)

  Tim Burton goes beyond all borders and directs probably the best pure horror movie of the 90's. Creating an eerie web of witchcraft and dark folklore and setting it in an atmosphere where grey is the lightest color, Burton manages to give you the creeps without using any cheap tricks. The amazing photography and carefully executed settings make the film more realistic and so believable.The gloomy mood of the film sets the bar high, takes you by the balls and drags you through its muddy forests.
  Johnny Depp ,sometimes, is more than the pretty boy that every girl loves. He has great talent when it comes to impersonating weird characters and he is the only one who could star in this film for sure. Christina Ricci and Miranda Richardson are equally good in their roles, giving amazingly heavy performances. Michael Gambon and Christopher Walken complete the cast for this masterpiece of modern goth horror film!
Must watch this : on a frightful night when outside there is heavy, unstoppable rain and strong wind. Dim the lights, lights some candles, make some Bloody Mary and enjoy this with your girlfriend in your arms. Let the weather combine with the movie and put you in its creepy mood.
